Suggested Lesson Plan
This website is designed for students to do as a class activity either as a whole group or individually in a computer lab. Another option is to have the material assigned as homework and then to discuss later in class. The information of the website can be adjusted to use in class by printing the information about "Kalinka (A Russian Folk Dance)" under the Brief info tab to students. Then, the instructor shows the video(s) in class and leads the discussion.
Some suggestions on how to use this website are:
- Create a worksheet for students to complete as they browse through the website. The worksheet should have corresponding questions to the information in the order of the sections provided in the website so that students can follow as they explore the information.
- Depending on the settings, students may be instructed to watch one, two, or all three videos on the website. After watching the video(s), students should reflect on the dancing between the videos by using the comparative and superlative adjectives.
- After exploring the website, students might compare the style of Kalinka and the folk dance(s) of their home country in the aspects of costumes, movements, athleticism, and cultural values. Students can also share their reflections in the blog.
- Students may be assigned to do a small project about one of the traditional dances of their country in the blog to share with the class.
- Students can discuss and respond with other students about the actual topic and other students’ projects, and then leave any comments that they may have on the blog.
